When the past suddenly answers: Dialogue avec Marc Aurèle
Marc Aurèle lived in the 2nd century. His thoughts are nearly 2,000 years old. And yet, some of his questions resonate with a surprising modernity.« It is much more than an art installation », explains Prof. Dr. Claus-Christian Carbon. « It is an invitation to self-reflection and a philosophical dialogue that draws on timeless wisdom, while remaining deeply rooted in our present . »
On 3 October, a new space opens up between the past and the present – an experience to share as a family. Whatever language you speak, Marc Aurèle will answer in yours. This encounter thus becomes an exchange that people of all generations and backgrounds can share.
In the interactive installation « Dialogue avec Marc Aurèle » by Bodo Korsig, the Roman emperor and philosopher comes back to life through an uncannily lifelike bust, animated by a 3D video projection. You ask a question. He answers. And suddenly, something unexpected happens : a real conversation begins.
In 2025, the installation was presented for the first time at the Musée Simeonstift de Trèves, where more than 150,000 visitors experienced this dialogue. The work also attracted international interest, including a report on the German television news programme Tagesschau.
